The Company of Animals
The Company of Animals (COA) was founded in 1984 by animal behaviourist Dr Roger Mugford as a commercial vehicle for his inventions that simplify pet training and help improve their behaviour.
The company is based on a farm in Surrey, England and runs alongside its sister company The Animal Behaviour Centre, which was also founded by Roger in 1979. The behaviour centre is one of the best in the country and specialises in all levels of dog training, behaviour consultations, aggressive dogs as well as pet legal issues and court representations. This gives COA the unique position of constantly being able to research and develop new products that help resolve pet related behaviour and training problems, as well as having a great base in which to test new designs and principals.
The primary drive for the company has always been to develop products that help owners and their pets find an enriched life and improve animal welfare.
The first and most famous product to be developed was the Halti. Designed and developed by Roger, the Halti was the first ever dog Headcollar and has gone on to be the best selling Headcollar worldwide.
COA believe in developing products which are going to help the life of pets and their owners. For example, the Halti Headcollar was designed to help stop dogs from pulling, whilst being able to provide the owner with greater control. The steering principal on which the Halti was developed is so effective that it led to the development of the Halti Harness, which works on the same method of front control but steers from the chest.
COA's product portfolio has expanded rapidly in recent years and currently boasts over 30 different product ranges. Some of the latest developments have included the revolutionary hand held Pet Corrector device, designed to interrupt unwanted behaviour by releasing a hiss of air and more recently, we have launched a new training range, 'CLIX', which encompasses a wide variety of products, from long lines to clicker training kits.
